Pride Born Of Hurt (1)

Our pride often keeps us from asking to have our needs met.  Perhaps we grew up in a family where we were consistently ignored or disappointed and our personal needs were seldom met.  Some of us may have reacted by becoming self-sufficient.  We determined we would never ask anyone for help again.  However, our plan opposed God’s plan for successful living, and our drift into addictive and destructive lifestyles affirms that.

My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.  (2 Corinthians 12:9 NLT)

We are powerless to live life well on our own.  God has promised His strength to sustain and empower us to make new choices and accomplish things we never thought possible.  Our part is to ask for His help.  When we ask Jesus for help, His Holy Spirit will work in us enabling us to be healthy whole people. He will help us undo our ways of coping with life which steered us into destructive ways of living.  He will give us wisdom to recognize the solutions for today’s problems and the part others are meant to play.  When we are following His will, He will even give us favor before others.

“I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”  (Luke 11:9-10 NIV)

One of the great ways we honour God’s plan in our relationships, is to give others an opportunity to bless us as God intended.  Someone needs to know they have value today and the way they will discover it is by us asking for, and receiving their help.  Others need the gift of our assistance and when we live in healthy relationships we are able to “pay forward” the kindness we’ve received.  This is the life that God invites us to and is described in the Bible this way:  Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ …. (Galatians 6:2 NLT)
