Pride Born Of Hurt (5)

Friday June 17, 2016

God's promise to us is that everyone who seeks healing and freedom will find it.  The challenge is for us to give up on our prideful efforts to be self-sufficient.  Our own efforts are creating obstacles in our path and cluttering the road with litter that takes extra time to remove before we can go forward.

We have to acknowledge that our addiction is only a misguided temporary measure for relief of our pain. God alone has the real solutions in His word as recorded in the Bible.

Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession. (James 1:17-18 NLT)

We really don't know what is best for us.  Just asking once for help may not provide all the answers we are seeking.  We must be persistent and ask repeatedly for help until all the tangled threads of the problem are sorted.  When we do this, we can be assured that our loving Heavenly Father will respond by giving us every good and perfect gift from above, leading to freedom, healing and abundant life.

A child doesn’t learn to walk the day it is born.  We would never seek the help of a doctor who thought he had finished all the studies he needed in one day.  Wisdom takes time.  It involves many step-by-step lessons that fit into a pattern that will only make sense after a period of time.

When we trust our will and our life into God’s care, He will do things and show us things that will help us even though they may seem to cause a detour in our road at the present time.  A mother grabs a toddler and stops it from going up a staircase.  Is she being mean?  No, her intent is to save that child from a painful fall.  God certainly will put up roadblocks that steer us away from disaster on the road ahead.

God opposes those who are proud.  But he gives grace to those who are humble.  (James 4:6 NLT)

Today, will we humbly follow God’s direction or will we curse the necessary roadblock when it gets in the way of our own plans?
