Serenity Saturday Path Of Peace
Saturday June 11, 2016

Saturday – a day to relax and unwind from the busy responsibilities of the week, to do some errands and tidy up things that may have become cluttered during the week. Saturday is also a day to give our hearts a chance to quiet down and take a break. It’s why in recovery meetings we say the Serenity Prayer as we seek God to give us peace in our hearts. The good news is that God’s peace is made available to people like us – people who’ve lived in darkness and the shadow of death. God knows we are unable to find the way to peace on our own and so He makes Himself available to guide us to the path of peace.

Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace. (Luke 1:78-79 NLT)

Seeking to live in the peace that God gives us may be challenging when circumstances or people are difficult to deal with. Jesus knows this and tells us the plain truth – you will have troubles – but He promises that His peace will overcome all our troubles.

God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other.” “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” (Matthew 5:9, Mark 9:50, John 14:27, 16:33 NLT)
It will take some effort to build peaceful relationships and live in them but, with God in our lives, peace will be there for us as we embrace it one day at a time.
