Sunday Psalm Clarity

Sunday June 19, 2016

Your laws are wonderful. No wonder I obey them! The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand. I pant with expectation, longing for your commands. Come and show me your mercy, as you do for all who love your name. Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil. Ransom me from the oppression of evil people; then I can obey your commandments. Look upon me with love; teach me your decrees. Rivers of tears gush from my eyes because people disobey your instructions. (Psalm 119:129-136 NLT)

Our lives have bounced around from place to place, from broken relationship to broken relationship.  We have felt the pain of disconnectedness and the insecurity of not feeling like we belonged anywhere.  God's word today reminds us that where we've been is no surprise to Him.  He knows the oppression we've felt, the tears we've wept and the injustice that we've seen or experienced because people have disregarded God's law and dishonored His name.

It is God’s desire to rescue us and set us on a path of life that is full of mercy and truth.  When we make a choice to walk with God, following His ways, we will not be overcome by evil.  Life isn’t perfect and people around us won’t suddenly be perfect but God has a plan for us today and His instructions are clear, so clear that even the simple minded can understand.  We can find God’s plan in the Bible.

Learning the truth of what God says works begins by regularly reading the Bible.  However, the real learning comes when we obey what we read and do what God says.  As we put God’s directives into action, we recognize how well they work and how life changes dramatically as we continue to obey.  God’s word has stood the test of time.  Many people in the past have experienced a good, pleasing and perfect life through obedience to God’s principles for living.  God gave them a spiritual awakening as they practiced His principles in all their affairs.  It’s our turn today.
