Vulnerable To Emptiness (2)

To continue to live in God's power and prevent relapse in vulnerable times, we need to allow our lives to be continuously shaped by God's principles and plan for us.

The Bible teaches:  If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. (1 Corinthians 10:12-13 NLT)

Where we experience feelings of frustration and dissatisfaction, God invites us to see these feelings as signals that there is something wrong and to seek His help and guidance in handling the problem.  Where we used to wait for others to come and fix us and drag us out of dark places, we now need to do the reaching out, and by so doing, experience the connectedness and joy of relationship. We can reach out to God.  He’s always available to help.  We can also put ourselves under the guidance of a mature and trustworthy person and let them mentor us as we move forward in our recovery.  Rather than run away from frustration, it's time to persevere and see the possibility for change that might be just around the corner.

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.  (Hebrews 10:36 NIV)

Sometimes our feelings of vulnerability can be dealt with by simply taking time to be grateful.  There will always be things that aren’t working the way we wanted them to work and things that are not all that we hoped they would be some day.  At the same time, we have many undeserved blessings and gifts surrounding us.  As we pause to remember and give thanks for those blessings and gifts, we are strengthened and steadied to face the challenges before us.

Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!  (Psalm 103:2-5 NLT)
