Sharing Heart To Heart (3)

Wednesday July 13, 2016

When life is overwhelming, we often turn to addictive habits to help us hide from our negative emotions. Some of us may not use street drugs and alcohol, but we hide our worries and fears in things like overeating, mindless television, electronic games, shopping or even work.  When difficult situations arise either within us or in our circumstances, like a ship going through rough seas we need a safe harbour where we can shelter from the storm.  God is always there to be that safe harbour.  We can always share with God the confusing things that are troubling our hearts and minds.   If we call on God, He will answer us and, in His infinite wisdom, direct us in the way that we should go.

Many of God’s friends will testify that when they were in distress, trapped in their own personal hell, they called out to God and He brought them through their troubles to where they are today.

The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.  Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.  (Psalm 9:9, 1 Peter 5:7 NLT)

We need never doubt that the Lord is aware of our troubles and hears us when we pray. The question we really should ask ourselves is, “are we spending time with God and allowing Him to tenderly care for us”?

Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:28-31 NLT)

Today, particularly if times are tough as they often are in sobriety, let’s choose to improve our heart-to-heart contact with God through prayer and meditation.
