I pray with all my heart; answer me, Lord! I will obey your decrees. I cry out to you; rescue me, that I may obey your laws. I rise early, before the sun is up; I cry out for help and put my hope in your words. I stay awake through the night, thinking about your promise. In your faithful love, O Lord, hear my cry; let me be revived by following your regulations. Lawless people are coming to attack me; they live far from your instructions. But you are near, O Lord, and all your commands are true. I have known from my earliest days that your laws will last forever. (Psalm 119:145-152 NLT)

These verses invite us to call out to God with a trusting heart. God responds to the prayer that wants to do His will and wants to know His way. We may have to call out to God for help to keep His principles, but God is faithful and He will reward us. In the morning, if we spend time with God, it’s amazing how we will be aware of His closeness and hear His comforting voice guiding us all day long. A regularly scheduled time with God will improve our conscious contact with Him, and through prayer and meditation, we will gain the knowledge of His will and the power to carry it out.

Without doubt, on a daily basis, the enemy will seek to harm us with obsessive and fearful thoughts. His desire is to destroy us through relapse into our substance or habit of addiction, or to simply weigh us down with troubles and fears. But, the good news is, when we stand firm in the protection of our God, He will keep us safe from all the attacks of the enemy. It is a great comfort to know that someone strong enough to help us is close. Troubles come. Some days and circumstances are stormy but God doesn't abandon us in the storm, God stays close.
On troubling days, our part is to relentlessly stand firm on God’s principles. When we persist in following God’s directives, He takes responsibility for the outcome of what concerns us. Life with God in recovery can be meaningful and joyful as we follow these simple practices.
