Serenity Saturday Peace In Admitting The Problem

Saturday August 6, 2016

God loves us and wants us to experience peace and joy in life.  Why don't most people have the abundant life that God planned for us to have?  The problem is, we’re too busy sorting out life on our own and making a mess of it.  The good news is, when we admit our chaos and turn away from our self-directed lifestyle to a God-directed life, we will begin to experience peace.

Turn away from evil and do good.  Search for peace, and work to maintain it.  (1 Peter 3:11 NLT)

We don’t have to wait until we have the solution to every issue we face in order to begin the journey to peace.  We don’t even have to know how everything works in order to get started on life with God in recovery.  An honest admission that we are powerless and that our life is chaotic and unmanageable brings peace.  Why? Because we are acknowledging truth and living in truth brings peace. God is well aware that in addiction we have been living in darkness and under the shadow of death. As we now walk the path of recovery, God is ready and willing to come alongside us to be our guide and fill us with peace.

Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace.  (Luke 1:78-79 NLT)

When we choose to acknowledge the darkness we are in and our need for light, God is ready to help bring order out of our chaos, calmness to our unsettledness, and comfort for every sorrow we’ve endured.

Over and over again we read in the Bible how people came to Jesus with their problems.  One thing He often said to them as He helped them was, “Go in peace.  Your faith has made you well.”  Jesus never changes and so we are assured of the same response from Him today.
