Sunday Psalm An Undivided Heart

Sunday August 21, 2016

For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God.  Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.  I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.  For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths, from the realm of the dead.  Arrogant foes are attacking me, O God; ruthless people are trying to kill me—they have no regard for you.  But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.  Turn to me and have mercy on me; show your strength in behalf of your servant; save me, because I serve you just as my mother did.   Give me a sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.  (Psalm 86:10-17 NIV)

We can rely on God’s faithfulness in every circumstance but, are we faithfully serving God with an undivided heart?  Our hearts are prone to wander and we tend to fix our thoughts on our problems rather than on the great love, compassion and grace that God pours out on us.  When God is our Father and we are His children, who or what in this world can come against us?  God will be our strength in times of trouble.  In recovery, our main focus is to stand firm on the word of God with an undivided heart, and leave all the consequences to Him.

People who have no regard for God, maybe our former friends who are still in addiction, may slander us and seek to bring us back into sinful collaboration with them, but, if we hold fast to God’s ways even our enemies will be put to shame.  Maybe our friends will see the help and comfort that God has given us and it will stir up a desire in them to know our great God and experience His compassion and love for themselves.

God’s unfailing love for us delivered us from the realm of the dead, why not reach out today and tell someone how they might receive life.
