You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me. Those who want to kill me will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth. They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals. But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God will glory in him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced. (Psalm 63:1-11 NIV)

The writer of this Psalm is in trouble. His enemies are pursuing him with orders to kill him. What does he do in the middle of his trouble? He prays, glorifies God, and sings!
When we come to believe in a power greater than ourselves, and give our will and our lives over to the care of God, we can expect to be pursued by the enemies of our soul. We have been living in rebellion against God and in slavery to these powers of darkness for some time. They will not easily release us from their chains. When we seek God and acknowledge that His power in us is greater than all the powers of darkness, we will begin to recognize His unlimited ability to free us from the strongholds that have kept us powerless for so long. Jesus, by His earthly life, death and resurrection, won the victory over every demonic power. We can silence their voices and demolish their arguments in our heads by upholding the truth of God’s word.

Instead of wallowing in self-pity because of our circumstances, will we seek God who loves us with unfailing love, ask for Him to be our strength, and then praise Him for his help and protection?
