Key To The Kingdom

Monday September 26, 2016

We hold keys to all sorts of things.  Losing keys raises all sorts of problems when we misplace them.  We may be locked out from our homes, our cars or our desks etc. causing us frustration because we cannot gain access.

Being without keys is one thing, but not having the right key is another.  The key which unlocks the padlock on our bike or starts the engine to our car will not open the door to our home.  When we have the right key we have access to the thing the key was made for.   Sometimes we may try very hard to fit the wrong key into the lock on our front door.  No matter how much effort we put into twisting and turning and trying to get the door to unlock, it will not open to us because it is not the right key.  We need to have the right key to the thing we want to open.

God has created us with something called “eternity” in our hearts – a longing for something more than what we see and experience around us.  It’s a longing for relationship with God and no matter what we try to use to fill that spot, the door to satisfaction and happiness remains closed to us.  The key that opens the door to the life we long for is Jesus Christ.

Jesus said I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.  (Revelation 1:18 NIV)

Jesus also said “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”  I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”  (John 11:25-26, 14:6 NIV)

We need to ask ourselves today, “Do I have the key which will open up the door of eternal life for me?  Have I invited Jesus Christ into my life and completely turned my will and life over to his care?"
