Twelve Steps Of A.a. Step Two Power Greater Than Ourselves (2)

Thursday November 17, 2016

As we come into recovery programs we listen to and are supported by the experience, strength, and hope that others share. The Bible is filled with stories about the kindness of Jesus towards those He encountered while here on earth.  As we turn to Jesus, hope for that same kindness and restoration will be ours.

There was a man who came to Jesus and asked him to help his young son who was afflicted with a demon.  He said to Jesus, “Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.” “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”  (Mark 9:22b-24 NLT)

When we face our powerlessness over our addictions and the unmanageability of our lives, we can begin the process of recovery by asking God to help us have more faith just like this man did.  Jesus set the boy free from the spirits that were tormenting him.  He awaits an invitation from us in order to do the same for us.  Recovery and eternal life are ours when we believe what God says, renounce our rebellion, and receive the one whom God sent to save us.  The true light of the world became a human being and is known as Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  (John 8:12 NIV)

Jesus is the image of the invisible God.  We can know what God is like by getting to know Jesus and understanding His ways and His relationships.  As we begin to trust in Jesus we learn how God truly meant life to be.

Lord Jesus, I come to You and ask for Your help to believe that a power greater than myself could restore me to new life and sanity.
