Twelve Steps Step Eleven God’s Will Revealed (2)

Prayer to our gracious God, and meditation on His word, are positive steps that will help us rebuild our lives. In our daily devotions, we are not simply seeking to learn facts about God but rather to come to Him, and get to know His character and His ways. As we draw closer in our relationship with God, we will discover that we have a loving friend who knew us before we were born, knows all about us, and cares deeply for us.
There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24 NLT)
God has created us with a deep longing for intimate personal sharing and understanding, trusting and being trusted. God wants to fulfill this desire first through relationship with Him. Sometimes, in relationship with people, we feel close to them and at other times disconnected and lonely. God desires to speak with us heart to heart about the things that matter to Him.
The LORD confides in those who fear Him; He makes His covenant known to them. (Psalm 25:14 NIV)
The prayer and meditation to which Step 11 invites us is more than just trying to figure out what God’s plans are for us. Meditation and reading scripture reveal to us the nature of God and all the promises He has made to us. Underneath all our "spiritual exercises" is God's desire to affirm the unfailing love He has for each of us.
But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. (Jude 1:20-21 NIV)
Improving our conscious contact with God will strengthen our faith as we seek His will in all our ways.
Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your unfailing love for me. I ask for strength to live as a person who honours You in all my ways. Draw me closer to You that I might dwell on those things that are close to Your heart.
