Political leaders have come and gone. Sometimes we like those who have been elected to power and other times we wonder what happened on the campaign trail. Many political leaders who started out being "for the people" are exposed in later years as having abused the power and privilege of their office. We see and hear news of scandal on the television and in the newspapers almost daily. Whose voice are we to follow? How can we find a leader who can take us forward as individuals and as a society?
For us, once we’ve admitted that our lives are unmanageable and that we are powerless, the next step is to embark on the journey of “coming to believe that a power greater than ourselves can restore us to sanity.” In a world of many religions and spiritualities where can we reliably turn?

When the Sabbath day came, Jesus went into the synagogue. There he began to teach. The people were amazed at his teaching. He taught them like one who had authority. He did not talk like the teachers of the law. Just then a man in their synagogue cried out. He was controlled by an evil spirit. He said, “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. You are the Holy One of God!” “Be quiet!” said Jesus firmly. “Come out of him!” The evil spirit shook the man wildly. Then it came out of him with a scream. All the people were amazed. So they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching! And with so much authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits, and they obey him.” News about Jesus spread quickly all over Galilee. (Mark 1:21-28 NIRV)

Do we want a dependable voice directing us on a safe path in recovery and life? The Bible tells us clearly that Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. This is a great time to get to know His teachings and follow His ways.
Prayer – Lord Jesus, I am forever grateful for Your meaningful words of truth. Help me to follow You in all my ways for You are truly a dependable leader. AMEN
