Divided Loyalties (5)

Friday August 18, 2017

Our hearts and minds often feel divided.  We see a new way and we long for what it promises, but our old way offers some familiar comfort as well.  The challenge for each of us every time we encounter this conflict between the old and the new is to ask ourselves: “Are we willing to turn away from those attitudes and actions that keep our hearts “divided?  Are we willing to receive God’s care?”

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.  (Hebrews 11:6 NIV)

We can say we know God but the real proof comes when we choose to rely on God’s care to meet all our needs in every situation where we encounter a challenge.

Jesus said:  I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?  Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing … And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. (Matthew 6:25-30, 33 NLT)

Trusting God to care for us and provide what we need in each challenging situation is the way to life and health.  There is no easier softer path.  If we follow this simple plan we will find our way out of the frustrating cycle of recurring sin and into the fullness of life Jesus came to give us.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father when troubles come help me to remember that you care for me.  Thank you that I don’t have to figure everything out based on my own understanding but that you will give me the guidance I need as I rely on you.  AMEN
