Temptation And Deception (3)

Because we are God’s beloved creation, we are the target of the devil’s agenda every day.  His one goal is to destroy our lives.  His method is to deceive us with lies.  We must make it a practice to turn away from whatever the evil one is whispering in our ears and instead choose to build our lives on what God says.  We cannot think two thoughts at the same time, so the practice of renewing our minds with the truth of God’s word is an effective strategy in dealing with temptation and Satan’s lies.

When the devil causes us to feel frightened or negative about our future, we can remind ourselves that God has good plans for us and the power to bring them about.

For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.  The Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. (Jeremiah 29:11, 1 John 4:4 NLT)

When our feelings waver and we feel unsteady, we can choose to believe God’s promises and act on the truth of His word until our feelings settle down.  It sometimes helps to remind ourselves of the big picture with slogans like “This too shall pass,” “More will be revealed,” or even “Change is a process not an event.”  Whatever encouraging words we may use, we will never be disappointed when we make the choice for God’s principles versus the insane options of the moment.

God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.  (2 Corinthians 9:8 NLT)

God welcomes us to admit that in some circumstances we don’t know what to do.  He promises to help us when we bring the situation to Him.

Call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory. (Psalm 50:15 NLT)

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, help me to overcome the devil’s agenda in my thoughts and circumstances.  Give me strength to believe your faithfulness to help over my anxious thoughts.  Amen
