Twelve Steps Of A.a. Step Twelve Spiritual Awakening

God wants to give us more than sobriety. He wants to give us life. The purpose of the Twelve Steps of AA is to bring us to an awareness of God’s presence in our lives and awaken us to the purpose and plan God has for us. The desire to seek God in all our affairs is the outcome of “having had a spiritual awakening”.
Only union with God, through Jesus, satisfies the deep desire within us to belong. Believing in the truth of the word of God as revealed in the Bible, gives us the confidence we need to live a life filled with meaning and purpose. The Holy Spirit working in us gives us the desire and the power to do those things that please God.
It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to the Most High. It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening, You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done. (Psalm 92:1-2, 4 NLT)
Only a spiritual awakening could bring us to the place where we believe that a relationship with the Living God is possible. Only a spiritual awakening could enable us to take a “leap of faith” into this amazing intimacy with the God who has been working in us to restore us to sanity. Understanding this is what gives us rest, gives us comfort, gives us peace. The reality of our intimate relationship with God affirms deeply within us that our future will be fine, that circumstances are just circumstances that, together with God, can be worked out and overcome. This is what makes life worth living. This is the life experience we’ve always desired and now find in the embrace of the Living God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You, that through Jesus, You made a way for forgiveness of my sins and restoration of my relationship with You. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, awaken my heart and mind to Your presence ever with me. Amen
