Living Freely In God’s Care

Thursday August 30, 2018

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1 NIV)

How do we know if we have actually turned our will and our life over to the care of God?  There are signs in our thought patterns and behaviour that will indicate whether we have or not.  If we have, we will notice that we are able to say "yes" or "no" at appropriate times.  When we have made a wise choice, we will be able to "stick with it", regardless of changing circumstances.

Just say ‘yes’ and ‘no.’ When you manipulate words to get your own way, you go wrong. (Matthew 5:37 MSG)

To live freely we need to say “no” to our old way of life and “yes” to the new way.  We need to live in each moment as a beloved child of God.  We need to leave behind our old haunts.  We need to get rid of the lies and pretense that supported our former chaotic lifestyle and begin to live in truth.  We need to let the love of God fill our hearts.  We need to be kind to others and forgive those who hurt us just as Christ has forgiven us.  God’s Holy Spirit will enable us to do this.  We just need to allow Him to guide us in all our ways.

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.  (Ephesians 3:16-17 NLT)

Living free requires that we don't just know what God says works but actively put it into practice.  We can begin fresh each day because God's mercy is new and available to us every morning.

Prayer:  Loving God, I confess that I often allow things from my past to hinder me from consistently practicing the truth of Your word.  Help me to both want what You want and follow Your ways as You reveal them to me in each circumstance.  Amen
