To Whom Will I Give Authority?

May you be blessed by the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.  The highest heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth he has given to mankind.  (Psalm 115:15-16 NIV)

God gave the earth, and authority over everything in it, to humans.  Sin however, brought death to the earth and the separation of humans from their eternal relationship with God.  That is why Jesus came to earth.  He came to restore the relationship that God had planned for humans and to give them back eternal life.  To do that Jesus, who had equal status with God, became human. He did this so that He could legally pay, with His human life, the penalty for all human sin.  Jesus never committed any sin himself and therefore was able to be the perfect sacrifice.  How willing would we be to do that?

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.  And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!  (Philippians 2:5-8 NIV)
Whatever we may have done in our past or was done to us and likely contributed to an addictive lifestyle, is paid for by the precious blood of Jesus.  By His death, Jesus paid the penalty for all sin so humans could be reconciled with God.  If we give authority to Satan, he’ll deceive us into doing what seems right in our own eyes.  His agenda is to steal from, kill and destroy us.  If we surrender authority over our lives to the Lord Jesus, He will empower us to choose the good, pleasing and purposeful life God has for us.  Whom have I chosen to have authority over my life?

Prayer:  Loving God, help me to choose Your agenda of goodness and light and reject the lies of the evil one. I surrender all that I am to You, including the challenges I face.  I give You authority to live in me and work in me for my good and Your glory.  Amen
