Wednesday, August 1, 2018 -- Unrealistic Expectations Lead To Disappointment
Wednesday August 1, 2018

Unrealistic expectations lead to disappointment and, if we are not careful may also lead to relapse. Recovery is a journey not an event. It takes time to sort out what sent us down the path of addiction and contributed to the problems we caused. We need to realize that problematic areas will still be visible while we are in the process of change.

I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. (Philippians 1:6 NLT)
One unrealistic expectation we hold is the speed we want our loved ones to rebuild their trust in us. We let people down so many times while we were in addiction. Even though we know the changes we are choosing to make, our loved ones need time to observe how we handle the many challenges we will face. They need time to learn how to safely journey with us again. As we trust God to work in us we can bless our loved ones and trust God to work in them too.

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. (Isaiah 43:19 NLT)

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 NLT)
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank you for my sobriety and the rebuilding that is taking place in many areas of my life. Help me to be patient as You continue Your work to perfect that which concerns me. Amen
