What does it mean to have favour with God? Favor with God is a special blessing from God to us. It releases His kindness to us in a way that we are drawn to cooperate in those things God has prepared for us to do. God loves us and wants us to be successful in the plans He has for us. His favour will help us complete those plans, with the benefit of help from others.
But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favour with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. (Luke 1:30-32, 2:52 NIV)
Someone has said, "Favour is like being dipped in honey so that the blessings of God stick to us." As we listen to God, observe His goodness in our lives, trust His ability to lead, protect, and provide for us, we will find ourselves moving from ideas about God's goodness into an experience of God’s goodness for ourselves. This is living in the environment of God's favour.
Why would God be intent on blessing us today or any day? It's just His way. It's the core of His nature. It's how He operates. It is God's desire that we live as people who influence the environment around us so that persons who live in the same area also experience God’s favour. As we follow His directions, God will pour out His blessings on us until we overflow with His goodness. This goodness will flow from us to others, so that together we will desire to live in God's pleasing plan for our lives. This is God's heart for the world – one blessed person telling another of God's favour so that each person may open their heart and receive all that God has for them.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, As Mary and Joseph lived in obedience to Your will and experienced Your favour in their lives, so I choose to follow Your plan for my life and live in the stream of Your goodness and mercy each day. Help me to be an influence for good in the lives of those around me. Amen
