As we come to the end of this year, a year filled with both accomplishments and failures, it may be a time to reflect on events that brought both joy and growth in our journey with God in recovery. Perhaps, as we reflect, we may also have an overwhelming sense of the challenges and struggles that still surround us. However, if we continue to turn our will and our life over to the care of God, we can be confident that He, who began this great work in us, promises to finish it.

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. (Philippians 1:6 NLT)
At the end of each year we are reminded that the God of time and eternity has for centuries looked on human struggle and growth, both accomplishments and failures. He has heard people make promises to Him that they did not keep. He also watched them make choices that He knew would lead them to pain and heartbreak, but they wouldn’t obey His word or seek His wisdom.
God has planted eternity in each of our hearts. He is ready and willing to supply what we need to have a meaningful and purposeful life in the coming year. We can have hope this New Year’s Eve because God purchased eternal life for us through the death and resurrection of Jesus. God promises to pour His love into our hearts as we put our trust in Him and turn our will and our life over to His care.

Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:5-8 NKJV)
Prayer: Loving God, With confidence I put my hand into Yours and enter this New Year with the full assurance that You will faithfully lead me in the way I should go. Help me to listen for Your guidance and follow Your principles in all my affairs. Amen
