God knows we are unable to find our way forward on our own and that it is impossible for us to consistently behave in healthy ways, no matter how much we want to. In Step-1 of the 12-Step program of A.A. we admitted to our powerlessness over our dependency and that our life had become unmanageable. In His love for us, God calls us to come close to Him so He can teach us a new way to live and give us the strength to do so.

We wonder how God could value us as a person and be willing to give us another chance at life. In the past we never asked for or even desired His guidance. We certainly did not want to consider life on His terms or learn from Him. Again, and again, we chose our own way. Despite our persistent arrogance and distain for God, He continues to love and care for each one of us. Because of God’s great love for us Jesus came to earth to redeem us, heal us, and set us free.
Jesus said, “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come.” (Luke 4:18-19 NLT)
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28 NIV)
Prayer: Dear God, I confess I am powerless over my dependency and my life is unmanageable. I accept Your written words in the Bible as the truth on which I will build my life. I receive hope in place of my despair. I receive truth to sort out my confusion. Amen
