Sunday Psalm Let's Have A Party

Sunday January 3, 2021

How many of us have fallen to places in life where we never thought we would find ourselves?  In a moment of clarity we woke up to what we had become, and we were shocked. Our concerned family and friends had begged us to get help but, in our self-centered pride, we just continued to walk our rebellious path and we sunk deeper and deeper into the darkness of addiction.  Finally, in the chaos of our hopeless condition we called out to the Lord and He helped us.

I was pushed back and about to fall, but the Lord helped me. The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: “The Lord’s right hand has done mighty things! The Lord’s right hand is lifted high; the Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!” I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done. The Lord has chastened me severely, but he has not given me over to death. (Psalm 118:13-18 NIV)
In recovery we can now look back and see how the Lord has lifted us up.  He held our hand in His and guided us to the place where we could be restored to new life.  As truth replaces our distorted belief system, our faith in God is growing and we are becoming stronger in body, mind, and spirit.  We are being healed and restored.  We are in the process of becoming willing to forgive those who have caused us pain, simply by realizing how much God has forgiven us for the pain we have caused others. The Lord has not allowed us to die but to live in the power of His Holy Spirit and proclaim to others the great things He has done for us.

Jesus said there is a party in heaven every time one lost soul turns their will and life over to the care of God.  What a party they had for us!  We may even find that because we have been healed and restored to new life, our family and friends right here on earth were also partying.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You that I will not die but live and carry the message of Jesus and His redeeming work to others.  I am forever grateful that You love and care for me and have restored me to a meaningful, purposeful life.  Amen
