Filled With Wonder

Monday December 13, 2021

The Christmas season is one that can be filled with wonder.  It’s not just about the excitement we see in the eyes of children as they see lights and presents and think about Santa Claus.  It is about allowing our hearts and minds to be opened to the wonder of what actually happened that first Christmas when Jesus was born in Bethlehem.

All who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.  Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. (Luke 2:18-20 NIV)

It is amazing that the God who created the heavens and the earth cared so much for us that He was willing to be born as a vulnerable baby and know the experience of life on earth. He did this so He could bless and save us by becoming our substitute and taking upon Himself the punishment for our sins.  The birth of any baby fills us with awe and wonder but the birth of Jesus was even more amazing because of who Jesus is and the glory He set aside to come and redeem mankind from their sin.

Just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.  (Romans 5:19 NIV)

Too often we get jaded and disappointed by events and situations that don’t turn out the way we want them to. Perhaps it’s time to allow the great things that God has done to fill us with wonder and amazement.  This God is beyond our wildest imagination and stands ready to gift us with His power and presence this Christmas season.  Our part is to simply turn our will and life over to God’s care and then watch in wonder and amazement at what He does on our behalf.

Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us.  (Psalm 40:5a NIV)

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, Fill my heart with Your love so I can be open to the wonder of journeying together with You as You reveal Your amazing plan for my life.  Amen
