Safe Gates And Solid Foundations

Tuesday January 11, 2022

Gates serve several purposes.  One purpose is to keep those inside safe and another is to keep out those who seek to harm. Gates may be controlled so that only those who have special permission can enter.  When we turn our will and our life over to the care of God, we receive forgiveness for all our sin and are made pure and righteous before God.  Our relationship with God is restored and the gates of heaven are opened wide for us to enter in and receive all that God has promised us.

Open for me the gates of the righteous; I will enter and give thanks to the Lord. This is the gate of the Lord through which the righteous may enter. I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation. The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad. (Psalm 118:19-24 NIV)

Builders know that the foundation for a building must be on rock otherwise the elements of nature will eventually cause it to topple. We’ve already learned that trying to build our lives solely on pleasure doesn’t work. It led us into addiction and ruin.  Attempting to build a lasting recovery without the cornerstone of faith in God, who sent His son into the world to reconcile us to Himself, will truly have a disastrous end.

Thankfully, when we build our lives on the solid foundation of God’s word we do not have to worry about disastrous failure. The storms and earthquakes of life may come and go but we will remain safe, because we are living in the kingdom of God that can never be shaken.

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.” (Hebrews 12:28-29 NIV)

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, You are the cornerstone of life eternal.  Help me to grow in faith and stand firm in the knowledge of Your word as I apply its truth to every situation.  Amen
