Missing The Meaning

Friday December 23, 2022

During the Christmas season we celebrate Jesus coming into the world as a baby who was born from His mother Mary. In our celebration of Jesus earthly birth, how many of us have taken time to understand and give thanks that this same Jesus already existed with God prior to being sent into the world to save it? Jesus, the only begotten Son of God set aside His divine nature and came willingly to earth to take on human nature so that He could offer Himself as a sacrifice for the sin of the world. Jesus, the creator of all things, came into the world and there was not even room for him at the Inn.

The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him.  He came to his own people, and even they rejected him.  But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:9-12 NLT)

Many people, and perhaps even we ourselves, are so pre-occupied with Christmas activities that we ignore the real purpose for the celebration.  Some may be exhausted by the extra demands of the season and others may struggle with loneliness because they are unable to join family gatherings.  There are various reasons why families are unable to get together or provide the gifts they would like to give, so Christmas can be a really difficult time.

Today, let’s take the opportunity to intentionally leave behind any troubling thoughts of the season and spend time with God.  Let’s invite Jesus, the Prince of Peace, into our lives.  Let's simplify our exhausting activities and dwell on the joy of being receivers of God's lavish love. Let’s fill this season with direction and meaning as we include Jesus in our thoughts and activities today, and in the days ahead.

For the Father himself loves you dearly because you love me and believe that I came from God. Yes, I came from the Father into the world, and now I will leave the world and return to the Father. (John 16:27-28 NLT)

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, Thank You for the gift of Jesus to the world.  Help me to stop fretting about things and truly celebrate Jesus, for He is Immanuel, God with us. Amen
