As we come to the end of this year, a year filled with both accomplishments and failures, it’s time to reflect on the events that brought growth and joy in our journey with God in recovery. Perhaps, as we reflect, we may also have an overwhelming sense of the challenges and struggles that still surround us. However, if we continue to turn our will and our life over to the care of God, we can be confident that He, who began this great work in us, promises to finish it.

At the end of each year, we are reminded that the God of time and eternity has for centuries looked on human struggle and growth and on our accomplishments and failures. He has heard people make promises to Him that they did not keep and make choices that He knew would lead them to more pain and heartbreak, but they chose not to listen to His wisdom.

God has planted eternity in each of our hearts. He is ready and willing to supply what we need to have a meaningful and purposeful life in the coming year. We can have hope this New Year’s Eve because God purchased eternal life for us through the death and resurrection of Jesus. God promises to pour out His love in our hearts as we put our trust in Him and turn our will and our life over to His care.

Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:5-8 NKJV)
Prayer: Gracious God, Thank You for the love You generously pour out on me. My desire is to persevere through each situation in the coming year by upholding the truth that You are always with me and will guide me as I practice Your principles in all my affairs. Amen
