One sure sign of growth in our life with God in recovery is making time to serve others and being willing to adjust our schedule or priorities when someone comes to us with a need. Admittedly, we require great wisdom in knowing which needs we are to respond to, so we are not living in rescuing and co-dependent enabling.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. (Isaiah 6:8, Romans 12:1 NIV)

It’s so easy to get caught up in our own needs and plans and turn God’s planned way of living upside down. We don’t need to be users of drugs or alcohol for that to happen. All it takes is for us to think we know the needs of the day and then expect God to help us successfully complete our agenda. What actually works? We need to make our schedules available to God and be open to His plans. Anything else and we will end up wasting time and doing things that don’t really help us or others. Instead of blindly rushing through our own agenda, we need to put God’s priorities at the top of our “to do” list. We need to make ourselves available to be used as God chooses.

Jesus said to them, “Come with me! I will teach you how to bring in people instead of fish.” Right then the two brothers dropped their nets and went with him. (Mark 1:17-18 CEV)
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I want to know Your will and follow Your direction today. You know what’s best for me. Help me to be available to You as I go about my work and errands so I honour You and love others as You intend. Amen
