Hope In God
Some of us say we have hope in God, but what does that mean? Many of us make a list of what we would like for Christmas gifts and then hope that someone will get us what we want. Is this how we approach God, with a list of what we hope for? When we give our will and life over to the care of God, we become His adopted children and, through Jesus, we have a vast inheritance of rich and glorious things that belong to us.
When we have repented of our rebellious ways, we are forgiven for our sins and they are removed from us as far as the east is from the west. When we enter the waters of baptism, our old self dies with Christ and as we come up out of the water we are raised to a new life with Christ. The Holy Spirit then comes to live in us and He is the power greater than ourselves who will lead and guide us into the knowledge of all truth.
God is both the object of our hope and the author of it. God’s Word, as written in the Bible, is the foundation on which our hope is built. There is no hope for a person who, in their own mind, thinks they are wise. As we trust in God and obey Him in all our ways, we will have more and more hope in God and joy and peace will fill our soul.
Prayer: I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace as you trust in him. Then you will have more and more hope, and it will flow out of you by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13 ERV)
