Light In My Darkness, Peace For My Soul

This is the season of the year when we prepare our hearts for the annual celebration of Christ’s birth.  For some of us Christmas may stir up grief over Christmases past.  Dysfunctional family activities, addiction, poverty and loneliness are all part of the world we live in.  God sees our despair and, in His wisdom, sent His son to be with us.  Jesus is the promised Saviour for all who have walked in the darkness of addiction and sin.

Hundreds of years before Jesus was born Isaiah prophesied, “The people who walk in darkness will see a great light.  For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.”  (Isaiah 9:2 NLT) We are the people on whom the light of God’s love is now shining and for whom this great prophesy is fulfilled.

Some of us may feel that no one understands or cares about us.  The truth is, God both understands and cares.  The birth of Jesus Christ loudly expresses God’s unfailing love and care for us.  Because He took on human flesh Jesus can understand and sympathize with our weaknesses.

This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.  So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.  (Hebrews 4:15-16 NLT)
God will bring light into our darkness and peace into our souls when the storms of life are raging all around us.  He is our refuge and strength and together with Him, we will drive out the enemy before us.

I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth.  These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them. (Isaiah 42:16 NIV)

When we feel helpless and life seems unmanageable, it is time once again to turn our will and our life over to God’s care.  If we do, God will make the rough places smooth.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for allowing me to cast all my anxiety on You and for caring for me when I need it most. Please give me the strength to persevere through any trials that come my way and acknowledge that You are in complete control. Amen
