Living Securely In Times Of Crisis

Wednesday December 4, 2024

In the days of the Covid-19 pandemic many of us felt insecure.  Our way of life had been disrupted and we were required to follow new sets of rules and procedures to keep ourselves and others safe.  At times like these, where do we find security? At the time of Jesus’ birth Mary and Joseph experienced a time of disruption due to a Roman ruler wanting to count the people in the Roman acquired territory where they were born.  They are examples of how we might look to the living God for mercy and grace in our time of need.

He always gives mercy to those who worship him. He reached out his arm and showed his power. He scattered those who are proud and think great things about themselves. He brought down rulers from their thrones and raised up the humble people. He filled the hungry with good things, but he sent the rich away with nothing. (Luke 1:50-53 ERV)
Some of us, while living unmanageable lives, cried out to the God of our understanding to help us.  Even though, because of our sin, we had distanced ourselves from God He turned His ear to hear our prayer and through Jesus brought us to new life. God’s kindness and unfailing love for us took us to that place where we felt secure in giving our will and life over to His care.  God is a merciful God who sent Jesus into the world not to judge us for what we have done, but to pay the penalty so we could be set free.

God sent his Son into the world. He did not send him to judge the world guilty, but to save the world through him. (John 3:17 ERV)

Those of us who continue to walk with God find security in our daily contact with Him.  God is always with us, so we need never face our problems alone.  Together with God any difficulty can be worked out and overcome.

Because the poor are plundered, because the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the Lord; “I will place him in the safety for which he longs.” (Psalm 12:5 ESV)

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, I know that when I have conscious contact with You and follow Your ways, I am always secure.  Help me to keep my eyes fixed on You.  Amen
