Meditations on "Anger"

We have all experienced the power of negative words in our own lives and may also have observed the effect in others’ lives as they shared with us.

When we were out and about in our addictive and destructive lifestyles, we often said we were “in a war zone.

How far is the east from the west? It is a distance we can never travel and a destination we can never reach.

Encounters with our awesome God or His angels often bring fear.

Christmas is often a lonely time for some of us. We see others gathering and enjoying festivities that we, for many reasons, cannot be a part of.

After we courageously admitted that our lives were unmanageable, we then came to believe that we needed a power greater than ourselves to restore us to sanity.

The writer of today’s Psalm is putting his faith in a righteous and faithful God, and He asks Him to listen to his cry for help.

Living with God in recovery often presents difficult challenges such as: waiting for something we feel desperately in need of right now; not retaliating with anger when someone offends us; living with less when we could scam our way into having more; and facing the consequences of revealing a difficult truth.

When we turn our will and our life over to God’s care and trust in the new life Jesus gives us, does that mean we should never reflect on guilty feelings?

Before we were willing to admit that we were powerless over our dependencies and our lives were unmanageable, there may have been a time when we really wanted to do good but were unable to do so.
