Meditations on "Powerless"

Some of us find it hard to accept the fact that without God in our lives we are powerless and our lives are unmanageable.

The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out.

Some of us, when we get over the celebration of Christmas and New Year, may start to wonder what it was all about.

Political leaders have come and gone. Sometimes we like those who have been elected to power and other times we wonder what happened on the campaign trail.

Some of us may have awakened this morning to the fact that our lives are unmanageable and that we are powerless over our addictive behaviour.

As we prepare our hearts for the celebration of Christ’s birth, some of us may have negative memories and regrets about past Christmases.

Step Eight - Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

When we entered a recovery program we may have looked around at the program staff and wondered why on earth they would choose to help us.

In recovery, and in life in general, situations often arise which cause us to believe that we are alone and have no one to turn to for help.

As we come into recovery programs we listen to and are supported by the experience, strength, and hope that others share.

There are many circumstances in life that we cannot manage on our own.

Step One: We admitted that we were powerless over our dependencies, that our life had become unmanageable.
