Meditations on "Relapse"

God blesses those who work for peace. In recovery we have the responsibility to live in ways that honour and support truth that leads to peace.

Due to the chaos of our addictive lifestyle, many of us have made a move towards recovery only to struggle and relapse.

The longer we struggle with addiction and the more we relapse, the less likely it is that we believe there is hope for us to get free from the bondage of our dependencies and have a purposeful life.

Unrealistic expectations lead to disappointment and if we aren’t careful, may also lead to relapse.

One of our greatest spiritual dangers in recovery is “stinking thinking”.

Being grateful for the people around us and the things we have is of great value in leading a contented life in recovery.

Once we have cleaned up our lives from all past involvement in destructive and addictive practices we are home free for a life of joy and peace and blessing, right?

O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Relapse can catch us more easily when we allow our minds to drift away from God’s truth and linger instead on foolish obsessions.

We make ourselves vulnerable to relapse when we are willing to dwell on harmful thoughts and desires for activities that previously led us astray.

Living wisely means seeking direction from God’s word and the counsel of others who have walked closely with God.

We often bring our “street smart” thinking into recovery with us.
