Meditations on "Wisdom"

One sure sign of growth in our life with God in recovery is making time to serve others and being willing to adjust our schedule or priorities when someone comes to us with a need.

Whether it’s a commitment we make to ourselves, to others, or to God, keeping at it until it's completed is tough for an addict.

Early, if not first, on the list of qualities we need to build in our new life with God in recovery is optimism grounded in faith – faith that trusts in God, learns from God, and builds on the promises that God gives in the Bible.

God is always with me. I need never face my problems alone.

God is tender and compassionate. Knowing and believing that God tenderly watches over us with compassion will allow our hearts to be filled with peace.

At most recovery meetings there are lots of handshakes and hugs and "chips" or "fobs" to honour clean time.

While watching the evening news, we often hear about a disaster caused by someone driving while drunk or high or learn the next grim statistic in the crisis around the world due to opioid addiction.

To live with wisdom in recovery requires humility. We need to acknowledge, “I don’t really know what is best for me but I’m willing to try new ways and learn from the experience of others.

When we wake up each morning, are our first thoughts a desire to praise God for His grace and goodness to us or, are they focused on our problems and things that need to be done?

Co-dependency is a relationship addiction. People who are co-dependent often form relationships that are one-sided, emotionally destructive, and often abusive.

How many of us who have given our will and life over to the care of God have taken time to consider what we have received through making that decision?

Who wants trouble? None of us do and if we listen to God’s counsel there’s a lot of trouble we can avoid.
